Oleo Farm, 2009

Spring in Full Swing

Spring is almost here on the Oleo Farm. Notice the pictures and see that things are in full swing with peach and apricot trees in full bloom. Cool crops such as onions, spinach, beets and peas have been planted and are beginning to come up.

The cone shape in front of the peach tree in the picture may look like a space ship, but it is actually a pyramid trap to help monitor the plum curculio and let us know when they are around. That is the little bug that turns into the worms (protein) in the peaches as they ripen. Bumblebees have been brought in to help pollinate the fruit and vegetables.

In order to stay up with requests for homemade ice cream we have purchased a five-gallon ice cream freezer. Look for it in the afternoons on Hwy. 377 in downtown Tolar during spring break, March 18-21, if the weather is warm.

We are glad to invest in products that give us better produce. We are constantly trying to improve our organic methods.

Thanks for contacting our website. Stay in touch for news of fresh vegetables as they mature. More surprises are coming so be sure and check back often.
